The Supreme Court recently decided that schools are not allowed to use race as a factor for admissions. This will have differect effects on college applicants. On the one hand, some students will benefit from this ruling; however, some others will lose educational opportunities.
Do you think this is a fair decision? Are there similar laws in your country regarding access to education based on race, gender, religion, language, or ethnicity?

One can argue both in favor and against this decision, however, I think this decision is not fair. To empower some category of people, who traditionally have been deprived of equal opportunity, I think, for some time, there is a need for especial measurement to be taken until the ground field is evenly leveled. In my country the provision of education is not based on Quota or race or gender to the people and this somehow has deprived many people to have access to, especially, the higher education. Because access to higher education is limited to those who get high score in an entry test exam. People who go to schools located in unprivileged area, usually, can not get enrolled in universities because the education they have received do not help them to get the higher score for getting in to a university. Thus only the people who go to a good school can get access to higher education.
This is a sort of contraversial issue. Mnay people will accept and many other will not. However, for me it is important to have a mix of students from differnet races and tribs in the class. In my country, the education apportunities are not delivered based on the race or language. Everybody has the same right and the ones get the higher scores in the university internce exam, they get better chance to continue their higher eduction. However, some of the students who had not have the chance to study in good schools, specially in villages, are somehow negatively affected, because most of the time they are not able to get higher score than the ones who have studied the high school in the cities. That is why their chance for higher education is limited than the ones who have had better elementary or high school studies in the urban areas.
I think this decision is good for some students and bad for some others. It's good because now there is no race or ethnicity limitations for university students so they can get admission to any university that they like, according to their level of understanding and their GPA. On the other hand, it is bad for some students who come from other countries to study and don't have a good background and even for some students in USA who didn't study in a good school according to some limitations.
But I think it was better to decide about this issue according to each state population and diversity. Because in some graduate level classes like business, it is important to have different students from different countries and different backgrounds so you can experience new ideas and theories.
Using race as a factor for admission has been a controvertial issue in the United States.Although the opponents of this new legislation argue that a considerable number of students will lose educational opportunities, I believe, the legislation will provide equal opportunity for all students. The legislation will encourage competition among students regardless of thier racial background, resulting in significant increase in the quality and efficiency of education. In my country, Afghanistan, education is free for all and all students have to pass the entry exam to go to universities. I belive, accepting studnets in the colleges based on thier ablities in the entry test is the only practical and realistic option in a diverse country like Afghanistan.
